Dry Creek captures Colorado 8-10 baseball state championship

On a scorching summer evening in Grand Junction — a fitting setting for the red-hot all-star squad — Dry Creek Little League captured the Colorado State 8-10 Championship on Monday with a 13-3 victory over North Boulder Little League.

After putting up a seven spot in the first inning, thanks to a three-run triple from Max Rourke, Dry Creek (6-1 in tournament play) extended their winning streak to three games to capture the league's first state championship in a decade.

Dry Creek swept both games of the state tournament in Grand Junction after going 4-1 to capture the district tournament hosted by the league earlier this month at Curtis Park.

During their seven-game run through the district and state tournament, Dry Creek boasted a batting average of .432 with an OPS of 1.145, averaging more than 12 runs a game.

In 30 innings of work, the Dry Creek pitching staff recorded a 3.733 earned run average with a WHIP of 1.733.

In all but two games — a 12-5 win and a 5-3 loss against Colorado Springs Little League — Dry Creek ended the game early with the 10-run mercy rule.
